Philosophy of Care: Treatment of hand disorders/injuries requires a variety of options. Care can include bracing, medications, injections, therapy, and surgery. Hand disorders can make it difficult or impossible to work. I strive to provide the best non-operative care possible, progressing to surgical intervention only when other treatments have failed. I strive to provide clear explanations of a patient's diagnosis and treatment, and I actively engage the patient in the treatment choices. I will treat a patient with emergency operative care when the situation arises. My primary goal will always be to try to return the patient to their pre-injury level of function and employment.

Dr. Westkaemper is board certified in orthopaedic surgery. He has also earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand. He has been practicing orthopaedic and hand surgery for more than ten years. His area of expertise and special interest lies in treating the hand and upper extremity. His practice also includes general orthopedics as well as Worker's Compensation patients. Dr. Westkaemper has admitting privileges at the Baylor Medical Center at Irving and takes general orthopaedic call. He also sees acute hand injuries in the emergency room.
